Newcomer Welcome Meetings

  • The goals of our Newcomer Welcome Meetings are:

    1) Welcome newly arrived families to their school

    2) Provide them with a simple orientation

    3) Introduce them to members of their school’s staff

    4) Conduct an initial academic interview to support instruction.

Newly arrived immigrant families are contacted within one week of enrollment by one of our Bilingual Community Liaisons. Our Liaison team has the capacity to conduct meetings in Arabic, Chaldean, Spanish, Farsi, Pashto, and Swahili. When newcomer families speak a different language, meetings are conducted using a telephone interpretation agency.

Meetings almost always take place at their child’s school site. Liaisons provide a Welcome Letter and a Newcomer Orientation Guide, as well as packet of useful information that is unique to their child’s school. We also answer a lot of questions, and most importantly, we smile and welcome them to ÌÇÐÄvlogÊÓƵ!

For more information on the Newcomer Welcome Meetings, please contact Michael Serban, Director, Family & Community Engagement.
